Trail Tales Winner for April 2025

This is what @prehistoric.betty had to say about their photo**

“Hi guys,

My adventure took place in the alpine region of Vorarlberg, right in the heart of the Samina Valley’s mountains. This valley is a natural forest reserve, largely untouched by human influence. In this photo, I had just reached a peak after a long hike, feeling an overwhelming sense of happiness for making it to that point dressed in my Stone Age reenactment attire. With no modern gear—no plastic, no modern tools - I truly felt transported back in time. The reindeer fur kept me warm, and my fur-lined shoes kept me dry and comfortable, despite one shoe having a hole in the first layer of the sole. My handmade backpack held up well, carrying all my essentials reliably. I felt an immense sense of gratitude and fulfillment. Hiking in this attire and carrying the load made me reflect humbly on how our ancestors survived, traversing plains and mountains. I hope this picture shows my deep passion for reenacting prehistory.

Regards, Prehistoric Betty”

“It depicts me wading through a jungle river in Costa Rica. My favourite environment in one of my favourite countries and doing one of my favourite activities. In this case I was following the river from source to sea with a friend from the local indigenous group to map its course. He takes credit for this cracking photo wildkeysh on Instagram.

“A nice sized Mahi Mahi caught between Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and Oman 🇴🇲 in 1986, and boy, did it put up a fight to bring in. It fed us for several days, in varied ways, from raw, marinated, fried, grilled, even croquettes. Mum was a great cook!”

“The photo below was taken on a recent road trip to the Australian Red Centre. It captures a magical moment with us four ladies—two mums and two daughters—watching the breathtaking colors of the sunset over the Olga’s at Kata Tjuṯa National Park. We’re passionate hikers who just conquered the rim walk at Kings Canyon, Uluṟu, and the Valley of the Winds at KTNP. There are so many incredible places to explore in Australia and around the globe! I’m especially excited to hike my first Camino this May from Portugal to Spain, following a three-week adventure in Morocco in April. The countdown to new adventures has begun!
